Western Philippines University (WPU) has taken a significant step toward internationalization by participating in an extension mission in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, hosted by ACCA Global. The initiative highlights the university’s ongoing commitment to academic excellence and global partnerships in accountancy education.

The mission began with an exploratory meeting at Sunway University, where WPU delegates—University Board Secretary Mr. Joseph Dominic S. Liao and University Extension Specialist V Ms. Shiara Kuh T. Conde—met with key academic leaders at Sunway TES. They engaged in discussions with Professor Teo Ee Sing, Managing Director and Chief Executive of Sunway College and Founder of the Sunway TES Centre of Accountancy Excellence (CAE). Their dialogue focused on strategic institutional collaborations, quality assurance mechanisms, and the expansion of international extension linkages.

Following the initial talks, WPU joined fellow academic delegates from Indonesia for the ACCA MTSea Tutor Educamp 2026. This study mission allowed participants to observe and adapt best practices from Sunway TES’s world-class ACCA program, equipping educators with modern pedagogical strategies and global accountancy frameworks.

The delegation also conducted a courtesy visit to the ACCA Global headquarters in Malaysia, where they were received by Andrew Lim, Portfolio Head of ACCA Maritime Southeast Asia, and Ang Wen How, Education Relationships Lead for the region. The high-level session centered on pathways for institutional accreditation, capacity-building initiatives, and long-term support for accounting professionals across Southeast Asia. Crucially, discussions focused on unlocking direct employment pathways for WPU graduates with ACCA Approved Employers throughout Asia. By aligning WPU’s business and finance framework with global ACCA standards, the collaboration aims to connect graduates to a network of top multinational firms and finance organizations across the region, providing streamlined career placement and international mobility. 

Closing out the study trip, the WPU delegates visited the TYMBA Professional Accountancy Centre (TYMBA Education). The knowledge-sharing engagement provided insights into flexible learning models, tutor engagement, and strategies designed to drive professional student success.
