Western Philippines University (WPU) continues to strengthen its role in sustainable development, securing the 2nd spot in the MIMAROPA region in the 2025 Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings. This year, the university expanded its participation from four to eight Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), reflecting its growing commitment to addressing global and local challenges through research, outreach, and policy engagement.

One of the most significant improvements is WPU’s performance in SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), where it moved from the 1501+ bracket to the 301–400 range worldwide. This placed WPU 2nd among all Philippine higher education institutions under this category, acknowledging its increasing collaboration with government, industry, and international institutions. The university also saw positive developments in several other SDGs it was previously ranked in, showing steady progress in aligning its programs and operations with sustainability goals.

The THE Impact Rankings assess universities based on their measurable contributions to the United Nations’ 17 SDGs, offering a broader view of how institutions contribute to global development beyond academics. WPU’s consistent presence and improved standing in these rankings affirm its role as a strong partner in promoting inclusive, community-rooted, and research-driven approaches to sustainable development.
