VISION and MISSION
Our Vision
To be a leading center for promoting understanding, inclusivity, and holistic development of the Muslim community within Western Philippines University and its surrounding areas.
Our Mission
The Muslim Affairs Department is dedicated to fostering an inclusive campus environment by providing support and resources to Muslim students, faculty, and staff, ensuring their full participation in university life. It aims to promote Islamic education by offering opportunities for learning about Islamic principles, values, and culture, which contribute to intellectual and spiritual growth. Additionally, the department is focused on building bridges of understanding by facilitating interfaith dialogue and collaboration, strengthening harmony and mutual respect among diverse communities. Moreover, it advocates for the needs of the Muslim community, serving as a liaison between them and the university, addressing concerns, and promoting their well-being.
-Halal Research and Beyond-
University Halal Research Center
As part of our efforts to advance Islamic values in research, our University Halal Research Center serves as a key hub for halal-related studies, from food standards to Islamic finance. We also partner with industries and government agencies to promote halal certification and best practices across the region.
Our Services
Prayer Spaces
We provide dedicated prayer rooms on campus to ensure Muslim students, faculty, and staff have access to peaceful and comfortable spaces for daily prayers (Salah). These prayer rooms are accessible throughout the day, aligning with the university’s commitment to accommodating religious practices.
Halal Food Options
Our campus is equipped with halal food options, ensuring that students and staff can enjoy meals that adhere to Islamic dietary guidelines. We collaborate with local halal-certified suppliers to maintain high standards of food quality and compliance with halal requirements.
Islamic Holidays and Practices
We respect and facilitate the observance of significant Islamic holidays, including Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr. During Ramadan, we provide special support services such as Iftar (breaking of fast) arrangements and Taraweeh prayers. We also organize community events for the Eid al-Adha (Qurban) celebration.
Islamic Guidance and Counseling
Our team offers guidance and counseling services for students and staff who seek religious or spiritual advice, ensuring a well-rounded support system for personal and academic well-being. Whether you are facing academic challenges or personal struggles, our counselors are here to provide help rooted in Islamic values.
Halal Research and Certification Support
Through the University Halal Research Center, we conduct research on various aspects of halal standards, including food production, Islamic finance, and halal certification. We also offer consultancy services to industries and organizations seeking halal certification or looking to comply with halal standards.
Workshops and Educational Programs
We organize workshops, seminars, and training programs that promote awareness of Islamic teachings, halal standards, and socio-economic development. These programs are open to students, staff, and the broader community, aiming to foster continuous learning and engagement.
Community Engagement and Outreach
WPU Muslim Affairs actively collaborates with local Muslim communities and organizations to promote socio-economic development through education, skills training, and halal-related enterprises. We encourage students to participate in outreach initiatives that strengthen ties between the university and local communities.
Islamic Events and Activities
We host various cultural and religious activities, including Islamic lectures, Quran recitations, and community gatherings, to enrich the spiritual life of the university’s Muslim population. These events provide opportunities for engagement, learning, and personal growth.
