Third-year Social Work students from Western Philippines University–Puerto Princesa Campus brought their learning beyond the classroom through a seminar on Reproductive Health and Family Planning held in Barangay Sicsican, Puerto Princesa City. The activity was part of their course Social Work Community Education and Training under the College of Arts and Sciences.

The seminar was organized after the students’ community needs assessment revealed the importance of reproductive health education in their adopted extension service area. To make the activity more meaningful, the class partnered with Ugat ng Kalusugan (Roots of Health) and invited Ms. Piety Grace Cordora, RN, and Ms. Shery Ann Villagracia, RN, as resource speakers.

Both speakers discussed important topics on reproductive health, responsible parenthood, and family planning. The participants were able to ask questions, share their views, and gain a better understanding of how these issues affect family life and community wellbeing.

Through this initiative, the students were able to apply what they learned in class and contribute to raising awareness on health and wellness in the community. The activity also reflects WPU’s continuing commitment to empower students and strengthen its partnership with local communities for sustainable development.
