Western Philippines University has announced a new directive limiting the use of single-use plastics within its campuses as part of its ongoing commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility. The policy applies to all in-campus businesses operating under the Income Generating Projects (IGP) Office and to food and beverage suppliers managed through the Procurement Office and the Supply and Property Management Office (SPMO).
Under this policy, vendors and suppliers are prohibited from using single-use plastics in the delivery of their goods and services within the university, unless otherwise approved by the appropriate university offices. The IGP, Procurement, and SPMO Offices have been instructed to integrate plastic-free provisions in procurement technical specifications and to implement monitoring measures to ensure full compliance.
The university also encourages students, faculty, staff, and visitors to bring their own reusable containers, bottles, and utensils when purchasing or consuming food on campus. This collective effort aims to reduce plastic waste and promote a culture of sustainability among the WPU community.
A committee will soon be formed to draft detailed guidelines for the implementation of this policy, reinforcing the university’s long-term goal of fostering an environmentally conscious academic environment and supporting the global call to reduce plastic pollution.
