Dr. Amabel S. Liao, President of Western Philippines University, is set to take part as one of the discussants in a session focusing on the impact of mining on socio-economic development. The discussion will be led by Director Agustin C. Mendoza, Regional Director of the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) MIMAROPA and a member of the WPU Board of Regents.

Director Mendoza will provide an in-depth presentation on how mining activities influence regional growth, livelihood, and sustainable development in the MIMAROPA region. His talk will explore the balance between economic opportunities created by the mining sector and the environmental and social challenges that come with it.

Dr. Liao, representing the academic perspective, will share insights on the role of higher education institutions in promoting responsible and evidence-based discourse on mining. Her participation emphasizes WPU’s commitment to research-informed policymaking, sustainable resource management, and community engagement.

This collaboration between NEDA and WPU reflects a shared goal of fostering informed discussions on development issues affecting the region. It also highlights the importance of academic-government partnerships in shaping inclusive and sustainable policies for MIMAROPA’s future.
