Western Philippines University (WPU) made a strong impression at CHED RAISE 2026 on February 25, 2026, drawing significant interest for its showcased initiatives in artificial intelligence, research, and innovation.




Held at the Iloilo Convention Center in Iloilo City, the three-day summit—organized by the Commission on Higher Education in partnership with West Visayas State University and Northern Iloilo State University—convenes higher education institutions nationwide to advance a responsible and inclusive AI agenda.
WPU, through its BS in Information Systems program, is showcasing four outstanding AI-driven research projects that exemplify innovation for societal impact. These projects reflect WPU’s commitment to CHED RAISE 2026’s theme, “Empowering Minds. Transforming Communities through Responsible and Inclusive AI,” translating artificial intelligence into practical solutions that benefit communities, enhance educational and administrative efficiency, and support sustainable development.




Representing WPU are University President Dr. Amabel S. Liao; Asst. Prof. Francis A. Alterado, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences; Inst. Harmann Rey D. Golez; and Inst. Christine Joy M. Acosta Among MIMAROPA State Universities and Colleges (SUCs), WPU is one of only two invited exhibitors, alongside Mindoro State University, highlighting its growing role in regional and national innovation initiatives.
CHED Regional Director Prof. Edna Imelda Legazpi personally visited WPU’s booth during the summit, expressing her support and commendation for the University’s initiatives in AI-driven research and innovation, further highlighting WPU’s role as a leading contributor among MIMAROPA SUCs. Through its engaging booth and active participation in discussions, WPU demonstrated its growing role in shaping technology-driven solutions aligned with the summit’s banner, Responding through AI for Societal Empowerment (RAISE), affirming the University’s dedication to ensuring that innovation remains anchored on real-world impact.
