
Western Philippines University (WPU) marked a significant milestone as it made its debut in the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings, placing 61st among Philippine higher education institutions and 1,142nd worldwide in its first-ever participation.
UI GreenMetric is an international ranking system that assesses universities’ commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility, covering areas such as infrastructure, energy and climate action, waste management, water conservation, transportation, and sustainability-driven education and research.
In the recent 2025 results, WPU earned a total score of 4,667.5 points, with standout performances in Education and Research (1,212.5), Transportation (1,135), and Setting and Infrastructure (1,125). The university also garnered scores in Energy and Climate Change (825), Water (195), and Waste (175).
This achievement is the result of the collective efforts of the entire WPU community, with special commendation given to the Internationalization and External Affairs Office for leading the university’s participation, data consolidation, and global engagement in the UI GreenMetric process.
The strong debut reflects WPU’s growing commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable campus development, reinforcing its role as a key partner for sustainable development in Palawan and beyond.
