Western Philippines University (WPU) and the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) are set to solidify their partnership in a ceremonial signing event at the Sequioa Hotel, Mother Ignacia Quezon City, on October 22, 2025. This partnership aims to support the massive planting of coconut trees in the province, and Philippines aligning with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s goal of planting 100 million coconut trees nationwide by 2028.

The partnership between WPU and PCA will focus on supplying high-quality coconut seedlings to farmers in Palawan, particularly in the towns of Taytay, San Vicente, Roxas, and Puerto Princesa

The ceremonial signing event marked a significant milestone in the implementation of the Coconut Farmers Industry Development Plan (CFIDP), which aims to boost the coconut industry in the Philippines. The CFIDP is a component of Republic Act 11524, signed into law by former President Rodrigo Duterte in 2021.

WPU and PCA’s partnership is expected to benefit thousands of coconut farmers in Palawan, providing them with access to high-quality seedlings, training, and technical support. This initiative will contribute to the province’s economic growth and improve the lives of local communities.
