In a meaningful effort to promote environmental conservation, the PSABE-Pre-Professional Group WPU Chapter spearheaded a mangrove planting activity as part of this year’s ABE Fest 2024 celebrations on April 8, 2024. Held with enthusiastic participation from students, faculty, staff, and student leaders from the Bachelor of Science in Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering (BSABE) program, the event underscored the university’s commitment to sustainable practices and community engagement.
This hands-on initiative brought together the WPU community to support mangrove ecosystems, which play a critical role in coastal protection, biodiversity conservation, and carbon sequestration. Mangroves act as natural barriers against storms and coastal erosion, while also providing habitats for diverse marine and bird species. By participating in this activity, BSABE students gained practical experience in environmental stewardship, reinforcing lessons learned in the classroom with real-world conservation practices.
The ABE Fest 2024 mangrove planting is part of a larger movement within Western Philippines University to foster ecological awareness and actively contribute to the protection of Palawan’s natural resources. This celebration highlighted the powerful impact of collaborative efforts between students and faculty, bringing positive change to the local environment while empowering future leaders in agricultural and biosystems engineering to champion sustainable development.
