The WPU Lingkod Bayani Awards Night, held on September 27 at the Costa Palawan Resort, was a resounding success in celebrating the 124th Philippine Civil Service Anniversary! This special evening honored retirees, posthumous awardees, and those who have demonstrated exceptional performance across key areas, including faculty and staff development, research and extension, academic affairs, and student services.
Around 600 WPU employees gathered to enjoy inspiring speeches and heartfelt stories from the awardees, whose significant contributions have made a lasting impact on both the institution and the community. The evening was a powerful reminder of their dedication and commitment to service.
Dr. Amabel S. Liao, university president, highlighted the importance of recognition and appreciation in cultivating a culture of excellence, particularly for the backbone of our university—the faculty and staff. She concluded her speech with the exciting launch of “FriPlay: Free Play Every Friday,” a health and wellness initiative that encourages all faculty and staff to utilize the university’s sports and entertainment facilities every Friday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
This initiative perfectly aligns with the evening’s theme: “Transforming Public Service in the Next Decade: Honing Agile and Future-Ready Servant-Heroes.” This theme underscores the urgent need for a proactive and adaptive approach to public service, highlighting the kind of leadership that will shape the future of both the university and the community.
WPU extends its heartfelt gratitude to everyone who joined us in honoring these remarkable individuals. Their dedication shines a light on the path forward, reminding us all of the transformative power of service in building a brighter future. They are a testament to the unique spirit of WPU, truly making it one of a kind!
